I can’t remember how the discussion started about backpacking to Australia before University started but pretty soon, Lynn called me one morning and hours later the air tickets to Perth were purchased. I informed my parents after that purchase was made and that became my typical behaviour now.
So after much discussion, I insisted on my backpack while the rest insisted on their trolley luggages. Like “mountain tortoises”, we took pictures whereever we went and it was there i perfected my self timer shots.
We saw a real comfortable chair and took a “going to depart for adventures” picture. 3 ½years ago, we emptied our piggies and took a brave step out of our comfort zone. Money can buy alot of stuff but not youth.

We took Valuair which provided a surprising nice and budget meal.

Upon arriving in Perth, we took a shuttle bus to Fremantle, a port city of western aus. The bus uncle had a hard time waiting for us inside the arrival halls while we had a long wait beside his vehicle. -_- I found us right after he gave up looking for us.

Our first accomodation was Sundancer Backpackers which received the highest rating at hostel world or something equivalent. It was after MUCH pleading that they finally relented and agreed to stay in a hostel for two nights. It was our virgin hostel stay so the four of us were quite paranoid. A part of me regretted when i saw the dusty room with double decker beds and used condoms packets ( not the condom) underneath the beds -_-… Being too shy, we missed out great opportunities to mingle with the friendly guests.

- A room in Sundancer
In a corner of the Fremantle street near to Sundancer there’s a very nice cafe serving the best breakfast I have ever eaten. So nice that a picture must be taken. Between two pieces of bread are bacon, cheese and sunny side up. Just imagine egg yolk juice oozing out from the sandwiches!

We had a great time touring the small city with sim’s friend as the tour guide. We did go to the famous fremantle market and ate the famous fish and chips !!!! But I don’t have digital forms of those photos. Food from Aussie created much fond memories. You know what good time we were having just by looking at our happy faces

Our next destination after fremantle was farmstay for 2 nights. The farm was sourced online and it takes 6 hours to reach there by train. Early in the morning, we made our way to the train station and board an Aussie train for the first time !

When we finally arrived at our farm, we were shown to a nice room with four beds. This room turned into a freezer at night. I remember vividly that i didn’t sleep at all, woke up trembling to feed wood to the fireplace. We even destroyed a heater along the way. And look at how uncool my seating position is !

Freezer in disguise
The farm was a big spread of green fields so unlike my dad’s tiny vegetable farm. When evening falls, wild kangaroo hopped out to feed. I tried approaching a brave one which didn’t jumped away nor punch me as i inched towards it. At night, the sky was stars studded. After travelling to so many deserted parts of Earth, i still think Australia has the best night skies. It looked as if some one accidently spilled a bottle of sliver glitter across the black floor. the glitter gets spread around when a breeze came by. The area with a highest concentration of glitter is the milky way.

- everyone’s so happy!
I discovered this pretty tree and decided to take a group photo using self timer.
During the two days of farmstay, we had to source for our own food. The farmer’s wife drove us to the town and we bought some pizza and some corns. We had initially wanted to do steamboat but we lost those stock cubes. Hence we just “anyhow” cook

After 2 nights stay in the farm, we took the train to Perth and spend our remaining two days visiting the spectacular Pinnacles Desert and Perth City. With that, we ended the first backpacking experience for all of us.
The post was ended abruptly becos i cannot upload any new photos. It just keeps hanging !
